About You & Your Music

We’ll get clear on our intentions and share a bit about ourselves. No matter what your background, this will be your opportunity to share something about yourself, your intentions and a song you’re proud of – so be sure to bring your instrument! Of course, if you don’t play an instrument, you can sing a cappella.. and if you haven’t written any songs yet, NO PROBLEM!  Just let us know that that’s why you’re here!!!!

ARS Songwriting Session #1

With Alan Roy Scott

About Your First ARS Session

You’ll receive an overview and co-writing session where Alan will explain some of his basic songwriting philosophy around the idea of “contrast” through analysis and examples, and then move into co-writing exercises that utilizes the principles laid out in a fun, hands-on fashion. Bring your instrument if you have one!

Mind Body Spirit Priming / Inspired Action

With John Stringer

Starting Our Day

How we begin our day can often create the momentum that either assists us in creating what we do or don’t want to experience.  As we come together to begin the day, we’ll focus on mind body and spirit to ensure we’re practicing what helps us remember our oneness, perfection to create from alignment.  Bring a journal, comfortable clothes for light exercise, and an open heart and mind.

Group Songwriting Session

With Alan Schaefer & John Stringer

About Your First Group Songwriting Session!

BandingPeopleTogether.com Founder, Alan Schaefer & Joh Stringer will introduce behavioral science tools to help you get the most out of writing together throughout the retreat.   We’ll then create an original song together using the tools.  You’ll want to ensure you have a notebook and small recording device (smartphone voice recorder, etc.) for this session so you can take notes and continue practicing later on at your convenience.

Write, Rehearse, Relax, Exercise & More

Whether you want to continue practicing what you’ve learned so far, write alone and/or with others, rehearse new songs you’ve written, relax before your next session, maintain your fitness routine or something else, this is your time to enjoy yourself.  The Crowne Plaza has a wonderful assortment of wellness opportunities nearby, including indoor billiards located in the bar lounge area. Guest room seating areas also have table tennis tables.

Guest Speaker Songwriting Session

With Traci Hale, #1 Hit Songwriter

Anatomy of a Hit
Traci will take you through her workshop designed to unlock the elements that separate a song from a HIT. We’ll also discuss the structure of Hit, including split sheets, picking a P.R.O. (Performing Rights Organization) and Overcoming Writers Block. 
Also, as a bonus, You can bring one song to be critiqued. But, be ready for her honest opinion.

Come prepared with instruments for more group collaboration and co-writing exercises drawn from various ideas and assignments such as writing songs for a specific artist, writing songs for a Film/TV show, writing to a pre-existing recorded tracks (“toplining’), and more!

Final ARS Songwriting Session #3

About Your Final Session
This will be the final group collaboration and co-writing exercises culminating with a fun songwriting free for all at the end under the banner of “TopTune” (groups are selected and given a title and 17 minutes to write a song and then perform it for the other groups).
****This may sound a bit scary to some people, but trust us, it’s a TOTAL BLAST !!!!

Reflections & Honoring Our Contributions
This will be a time of reflections, expressions of gratitude and sharing what we’ve learned together during the 2018 Conscious Songwriting Retreat! Afterward, we’ll say our goodbyes and head home with new songs, new practices, new wisdom and new friends & collaborators!
